We teach GREAT classes that kids look forward to every day!
We have all met in our lifetime a child that glows from inside. Whether it is a sparkle in the eyes, or a perpetual smile, they glow from some intangible light that tells us this child has a soaring spirit. The child is confident without being boastful, content without being smug. Children develop a sense of self-pride through accomplishments they make on their own. Though we may guide them, they alone are responsible for their achievements. When the child bows before our testing panel, it is the child alone that performs the material, and it is the child alone that receives the credit. With separate children and adult classes, we provide the personal attention children need to excel. Martial Arts can be a valuable tool in the development of young minds. With an emphasis on showing proper respect for others, behaving with compassion in victory and dignity in defeat, we help shape the values that will extend beyond the walls of our studio.
"Thanks to 15 years of meditation experience at the beginning and end of all my Martial Arts classes.. I was able to successfully sit in meditation during my graduate classes at school. I can proudly say I was the only one that didn't fidget and/or get told to keep my eyes closed, I'm also the youngest."-Katya K.(2nd Degree Black Belt, RPKC)
Our Children’s Karate program combines traditional martial arts training with high level character development and state of the art teaching methods. Not only do our children learn self-defense, they also develop very positive feelings about themselves and others. There are many concerns with how our children are growing up in today's world. The pressures on our youth today are very different from when we were growing up. Children don't only have to worry about getting good grades and behaving, they have the constant battle of avoiding drugs, gangs, violence, bullying, pier pressure and are under the constant threat of being abducted by an adult or another child.
The dangers our children face today are unbelievable. We don't want to be paranoid, but we do want them to be safe. The best way to accomplish this is to have a set plan both at home and away from home. At Rifkin Professional Karate, we realize that in order to give a child a head start in life, they must possess certain skills. Although the need for self defense both Mentally and Physically are important, we cannot ignore the Life Skills and Mental Benefits that we must teach our children.
PHYSICAL BENEFITS ARE ONLY THE BEGINNING
"Not one day goes that I don't smile knowing that my granddaughter is on you page with you like this. You are great Master Rifkin........ I love her more then life and I am so glad that you are teaching her to protect herself, I always want her safe and you (bless you) are making that happen. Not always is mommy, uncle mike or grandma going to be there to protect her, but her karate will."-Teresa M. (June '13)
Martial Arts is great for children. A psychological study found that children in martial arts have an increased sense of responsibility, a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks, and a higher sense of self-esteem. This is why millions of parents are using martial arts to supplement their children’s education.
Our reward system improves children’s self-esteem. The belt system is the key to building esteem. When kids earn their belts it gives them a great sense of accomplishment that really improves the way they feel about themselves.
Our program teaches practical, proven self-defense methods. We also teach the kids that the moves they learn in class will work, so they don’t go home and try them on their family members or neighbors.
"My 8 year old son has been going to Rifkin Karate Center for the last couple of years. We are very happy with the professionalism and positive values Master Rifkin provides in training his students. What I like the most about Rifkin Karate Center among other things is that students have to really earn their belts unlike the other karate centers where belts are easily attainable.
The belt exam is all one has to watch to see the seriousness and professionalism of this center. This was the first and last place I checked out when I was looking for Karate for my son and feel very fortunate to have found Master Rifkin to train my son." - Mita N. (2010)
Building confidence helps victims of bullying feel more confident about themselves. Self-confidence in itself is often a deterrent to bullying. For bullies, building confidence reduces the bully’s need to seek attention by bullying others.
Learning discipline helps victims of bullying manage their behavior to prevent provoking others. For bullies, learning discipline encourages positive behaviors while discouraging negative ones. It provides clear cut rules for acceptable behavior.
Learning about leadership helps victims of bullying make more friends, thereby reducing their chances of being bullied. For bullies, learning about leadership teaches them how to work others, recognizing how others feel in the process.
Learning martial arts can benefit anyone and everyone.
Yet it is particularly beneficial for children, especially those that are working through their own difficult issues.
Mastering self-control helps victims of bullying recognize what behaviors cause a conflict to become worse and then prevent these. For bullies, mastering self-control promotes emotional awareness and teaches them how to control negative feelings.
Victims of bullying experience extreme stress. If bullied at school, they’re often anxious to attend. Martial arts relieve stress, making your child feel less anxious and more at ease. For bullies, using martial arts to relieve stress helps lent out pent up energy and anger. It gives them a safe space to blow off steam. Of course, self-defense is a part of martial arts. But the process of learning these self-defense techniques is about building confidence. A victim of bullying that now knows they can protect themselves thanks to their martial arts training will appear much more confident. Much of the time, this confidence in itself prevents bullying.
