To lead a class with the threat of negative re-enforcement is to not lead at all. We choose instead to lead by example. Our job is only partly to educate; in large part, it is also to inspire."
The Rifkin Professional Karate Center has been offering instruction and training in Karate, Taekwondo, Kickboxing and Aikido since 2000. Located in Columbia, MO, Rifkin Professional Karate Center has worked hard to produce champions in life as well as in the martial arts. Because people begin their training in the Martial Arts for a wide variety of reasons, we have tailored our program to address these needs. Whether you are interested in getting fit, losing weight, improving your coordination, balance and stamina…or whether you are interested in self-defense and increased self-discipline, our program is dedicated to reaching those goals.
The Rifkin Professional Karate Center is unique in its approach to the training of Martial Arts. There are many schools and many styles of Martial Arts out there. We are different in that we stress detail and performance from our curriculum. Our students are taught not only the movements, but their real-life applications. Teaching a quality Martial Arts program requires a well-educated staff of intructors that can not only deliver the material in a systematic way, but can teach fun classes that students will look forward to day after day.
Headed by J.D. Rifkin (Master Rifkin) and a staff of expert instructors and managers, including Mr. Thomas Dang, Mr. Chris Bosque, and Mrs. Tammy Rifkin, the Rifkin Professional Karate Center offers a number of programs for physical fitness and instruction.
"I have been vainly searching for a good karate instructor in columbia for a long time. I'm Incredibly happy Master Rifkin moved to this area. One of the first keys in professional martial arts is integrity. JD Rifkin has it in his possession. He is a man who has attained mastery of this art and reveals it in his every action." -Yana (2013)
Our base curriculum consists of the blend of Karate, Taekwondo, Kickboxing and Aikido. Best known for its powerful kicking techniques, TKD is one of the more aggressive styles, blending the basic kicks with those more advanced and graceful, such as the spinning and aerial kicking. Among the benefits of TKD are improved flexibility, speed, power, and muscle control.
Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba. On a purely physical level it is an art involving some throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu and some throws and other techniques derived from Kenjutsu. Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. It is not a static art, but places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement. The flowing motion of properly executed Aikido is not only combat effective, but beautiful to watch.
Together, these martial art styles provide our students with options for every situation: Kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do's devastating strikes and kicks, coupled with the deep stances and balance of power from Karate and the throws, footwork, and energy flow of Aikido. As a student progresses, he or she will take on increasingly difficult techniques, each tailored for their specific level of achievement. For each belt advancement, a student will test before our Black Belt panel to determine their level of proficiency in that level's techniques. The testing material includes Punching and Kicking Routines, Forms, Self Defense Techniques, Board Breaking, and Sparring under qualified instructor supervision. Proper attitude and respect are always graded criteria.
Throughout our curriculum, we place emphasis on proper form, technique, and realistic street application. We encourage our students to push themselves further, to conquer formidable odds, and accomplish far more than they thought possible. We develop strong minds and strong bodies.
We teach all of our students to focus on and be present in the moment. In this age of distractions and sensory overload, this is a skill which returns immediate results in all aspects of one's life. Here are some interesting facts about Rifkin Professional Karate Center:
